The municipal court handles all moving violations, ordinance infractions, and disorderly persons offenses within the city jurisdiction, whereas more serious indictable offenses are referred to Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing after an initial hearing. During holidays and off-hours, the on-call judge can also issue emergency restraining orders when the Superior Court is not in session.
