Why You Should Hire an Attorney in Municipal Court

Many people mistakenly assume that minor offenses will result in minor penalties. However, even lesser disorderly persons offenses in New Jersey may result in jail time, fines, or probation, as well as a criminal record that can follow you for years--especially if you appear in court without an attorney to help you. Hiring a criminal defense attorney with specific knowledge of New Jersey's municipal courts will increase your chances for a better outcome. A good defense attorney can work with the courts and prosecutors to reduce fines or charges, or even provide proof to have charges dropped. Furthermore, if you're eligible for a diversionary program like Pre-Trial Intervention or Conditional Discharge (which can help you avoid a criminal record), a skilled lawyer can coordinate your application for the best possible chance of approval.
