Two Men Face Serious Charges for Assault at Family Reunion in Readington

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Sep 22, 2024 | 0 Comments

A family reunion in Readington, New Jersey, became a scene of chaos and violence when two men, Richard B. Gonzalez and Ryan S. Gonzalez, arrived armed with a knife and a gun. The two men assaulted some of the guests with the knife, and Ryan Gonzalez brandished the gun. There had been an unrelated domestic dispute at the party, and one of those involved then called the two alleged assailants, who are from Staten Island in New York, more than an hour's drive away. The victims declined transport to the hospital but instead were treated at the scene. Gonzalez and Gonzalez fled in a car before police arrived, and they are still at large.

Ryan Gonzalez faces two second-degree charges, including aggravated assault, and three third-degree charges, including making terroristic threats. Richard Gonzalez faces one second-degree charge for aggravated assault and another for making terroristic threats.

Heightened Emotions Can Result in Bad Choices—and Hefty Legal Consequences

The Readington family reunion case is a cautionary tale about how the heightened emotions around relationships with friends and family can result in bad choices and hefty legal consequences. Throughout the incident, some of the individuals—Richard Gonzalez and Ryan Gonzalez and the person who called them—made choices to escalate the friction rather than step back and address the issue calmly. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but the two assailants face the possibility of years of prison time and hefty fines. At the very least, they must respond to the charges against them or be fugitives from the law. Similar situations can result in charges of domestic violence and more. This case requires a knowledgeable, experienced criminal defense team to develop a strategy for responding to the charges. If you are in a similar situation, the Lento Law Firm Criminal Defense Team can help you.
