New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty After Making Secret Recordings and Eluding Police

The Office of the Monmouth County Prosecutor has announced that Christopher W. Cox pleaded guilty to second-degree eluding the police, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree invasion of privacy after admitting he covertly recorded videos of women and girls.

In October 2022, witnesses saw Cox following women around a store and using his cell phone to record them from behind. Later that month, Cox was pulled over while driving. When the law enforcement officer ordered him out of his SUV, Cox initially complied but then reentered his vehicle and drove away. He was later located and taken into custody.

During the investigation that followed, law enforcement discovered that Cox possessed numerous video files of women and girls being secretly filmed from below by a cell phone placed in a basket, bag, or similar carrier.

In April 2024, a Monmouth Grand Jury indicted Cox on 67 counts. Later, the indictment was updated to include crimes against 27 known victims.

At the sentencing hearing, the prosecution will recommend that Cox receive an eight-year prison term and be required to register as a sex offender.
