Popular Rock Drummer Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Jun 04, 2025 | 0 Comments

The drummer for the popular Canadian indie-rock band The New Pornographers has been arrested on charges related to child pornography. Joseph Seiders, 44, was taken into custody after police responded to two separate incidents of a man recording young boys with his phone in the bathroom of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Palm Desert, California. The band immediately severed ties with Seiders, who had played with them for over a decade.

A search of Seiders' home revealed evidence connecting him to the incidents. His charges include possession of child pornography, annoying/molesting a child, invasion of privacy, and attempted invasion of privacy.

Child pornography charges can upend your life. Seiders lost his job playing drums for one of the most successful rock bands of the past 20 years before his case even went to trial. If you're facing charges for crimes of a sexual nature, the Lento Law Firm Criminal Defense Team is ready to fight for your reputation and your rights. Serious Charges Need Serious Defense

Being convicted of crimes of a sexual nature, including against children, can permanently ruin your reputation and completely derail your life. New Jersey takes such crimes extremely seriously—child molestation can be tried as a first-degree felony with prison sentences of up to 20 years and fines of up to $200,000. Simply being found in possession of child pornography can result in a prison sentence of 5 to 20 years.

Any crime involving children is likely to elicit a strong response from the public, who are often quick to leap to conclusions of guilt long before all the facts are in. Take Seiders' case—should he somehow be proven innocent in court, he has still lost his prestigious job and had his name linked to criminal sexual activity against children by TV stations, magazines, and some of the internet's most popular music sites. The allegations will haunt him forever, regardless of what happens in court.
