NJ Teachers Accused of Sexual Crimes Against Students

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Sep 19, 2024 | 0 Comments

Across the US, the number of teachers accused of sexual crimes against students is on the rise. In fact, according to some estimates, educator sexual misconduct has increased ten times more in one year than clergy abuse has over five decades.

These claims include sending lewd material to underage students, engaging in sexual affairs—both on and off campus—and criminal sexual assault. These allegations have serious consequences for New Jersey educators, destroying relationships, career opportunities, and professional licenses—sometimes even before they have a chance to stand trial.

The charges in these arrests range from child sexual abuse , criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child, and, in some cases, witness tampering.

Consequences for Educator Sexual Misconduct

Even without a conviction, allegations of sexual misconduct with a student can have severe consequences for an educator. Some of these include:

  • Termination of employment
  • Loss of professional licensure
  • Loss of future career opportunities
  • Professional reputation damages
  • Social stigma and isolation
  • Public ridicule
  • Mental health impact
  • Criminal conviction and sentencing

These consequences have long-reaching effects and can affect your personal and professional standing even before you stand trial. With so much at stake, it is critical to have a New Jersey criminal defense attorney you trust.
