An Alleged Alarming Robbery of Outdoor Diners

A Bergen County, New Jersey prosecutor's press release describes the filing of additional charges in a sensational armed robbery case already garnering substantial media coverage. The charges, now filed against three defendants ranging in age from 22 to 45 years old, involve an incident allegedly occurring at 12:15 a.m. or just after midnight on a Saturday night in early August 2024.

The press release asserts that the three defendants drove up in a stolen 2024 BMW vehicle to accost the outdoor diners at a restaurant on Engle Street. The press release alleges that the defendants and their accomplices, brandishing handguns made off with jewelry and other personal items, stripped from the diners, one of whom the defendants or accomplices allegedly assaulted.

Aggravated Circumstances and Charges

The incident allegedly also involved two masked, 17-year-old juvenile accomplices whom the defendants used to perpetrate the armed robbery. The defendants' alleged involvement of the juveniles led to additional charges of using a juvenile to commit a criminal offense.

The defendants' alleged brandishing of the handguns, later recovered in the course of investigation, arrest, and search, led to additional charges of unlawful weapons possession and possession of unlawful hollow-nose bullets and a large-capacity ammunition magazine. Attempting to evade arrest and fleeing arrest were other additional charges relating to the alleged dramatic pursuit and capture of the fleeing defendants.

The Perils of Sensational Media Coverage

Criminal cases involving multiple defendants, juvenile accomplices, multiple types of charged crime, and weapons, resisting arrest, and fleeing arrest charges require skilled and experienced criminal defense services. Our skilled Criminal Defense Team provides those services in a manner that ensures your full trust and confidence.

However, criminal cases involving widely disseminated press releases and sensational media coverage further complicate effective criminal defense, prejudicing the local jury pool and bringing public condemnation against individuals whose innocence the law still presumes until proven guilty.
