Former Hudson County Teacher Charged With Sexual Contact and Child Welfare Endangerment

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Aug 26, 2024 | 0 Comments

Steven Gordon, an ex-teacher at a Hudson County school, has been arrested and charged with sexual contact with a minor and endangering the welfare of a child. The incident, which occurred on the 29th of May, saw the 67-year-old allegedly making inappropriate sexual contact with one of his teenage students.

Steven, who was a physical education teacher at the University Academy Charter High School, has since resigned as a result of the accusation. A sexual crime allegation is no joke. It can do incalculable damage to you and your loved ones.

So, if you have been accused of a sex crime, you need to talk to an experienced sex crime attorney who can help defend and protect your rights. Sex Crimes on Minors Is a Serious Offense

You probably don't know this, but a sex crime charge is a terrible thing to deal with. This is because even if you're innocent of those allegations, the fact that you were alleged to have committed those crimes can ruin your reputation.

If convicted of a sex crime in New Jersey, defendants can be at risk of serving anywhere from an 18-month sentence to a life sentence and may have to pay fines of up to $200,000 – depending on the severity of the crime.

And if you're convicted, that's just the beginning of your woes. It's not unusual for people to think that their lives are “over”. This is because even after you've done the time, integrating back into society will be almost impossible.

The taint of being labeled a sex offender never really ends. It's not unusual for convicted sex offenders to never get a decent job anymore. Why? Well, when organizations do a background check and their name pops up in the sex offender registry, that alone can be grounds for disqualification.

Then, there's the issue of not being able to enjoy civil liberties such as owning a firearm or running for political office. There's also the added significant lifestyle hardship. For example, because of your criminal record, you may be unable to access fair loans, mortgages, or insurance rates.

Get Legal Help From a Sex Crime Attorney

The prosecutors at the Hudson County Special Victims Unit tend to come down hard on anyone accused of sex crimes against a child. Therefore, they tend to go for the maximum penalties possible. Without adequate legal representation, you will be in deep trouble.

This is why you need the help of the experienced Criminal Defense Team at the Lento Law Firm. Our team understands the criminal process in New Jersey and can help protect your rights to a fair hearing.

At the Lento Law Firm, we are committed to fighting aggressively for your rights, regardless of the charges. So, if you've been accused of a sex crime, don't wait.
