In April, Austin Maddox, a former Boston Red Sox Pitcher, was arrested in an undercover child sex solicitation sting in Florida. He was one of 27 men who were arrested during a five-day joint task force “Operation Valiant Knights” sting where undercover cops pretended to be underage girls and engaged the men in sex solicitation conversations on the internet.
Maddox, 33, who is a Jacksonville native, has been charged with four counts of felonies, including the unlawful use of two-way communication equipment, traveling to lure/solicit/seduce a minor, promote/produce sexual performance by a minor, and traveling to meet with and solicit/seduce an underaged person after communication via computer.
Arrest reports indicate that even after being informed the “girl” he wanted to have sex with was a 14-year-old minor, Maddox still wanted to meet with her for sexual relations. He intends to enter a “not guilty” plea if he's charged with the offenses. He's been held on a $300,000 bond.

What Does New Jersey Law Say About Child Sex Crimes?
In New Jersey, the law has a very harsh stance on sex crimes in general. It is particularly worse for sex crimes involving minors. Allegations of these kinds of offenses are even quite damaging.
This is because even if you're able to beat the allegations, people still keep wondering if there's some truth to the claims. This can do significant damage to your reputation, affect your ability to exercise your rights, and could even limit your civil liberties. For instance, it could limit your right to bear arms or participate in jury duty.
Worse, if you're convicted, the consequences of a sex offense conviction could be dire. You could go to jail, pay fines or restitution, and you would have to register as a sex offender courtesy of Megan's law.
Then, your problems would really begin as you may not even be able to secure a job afterward, as employers may not want ti hire you after a background check.
