Why It's Important to Have an Attorney at Municipal Court

Even though your municipal court charges may be minor, you could still face jail time, probation, and fines if you are convicted. Any conviction will also generate a criminal record that could impact your life for many years. Your chances of getting leniency are greatly increased if you have a skilled criminal defense attorney with experience in New Jersey municipal courts. An experienced attorney will understand the workings of the court system and be able to negotiate for reduced penalties or even complete dismissal of charges. If you are eligible for a diversionary program such as Pre-Trial Intervention and Conditional Discharge, completing such a program could help you avoid a criminal history. A good attorney can coordinate your application for the best chance of acceptance.
