Senior Citizen Receives Justice After Years-Long Sexual Assault
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office announced that 51-year-old Adam Natal New was convicted of sexually assaulting a senior citizen dozens of times over the course of four years. The 75-year-old victim said Natal sexually assaulted her between November 2017 and March 2022 at her home in Pine Hill, New Jersey.
After a nine-day trial, a jury convicted Natal of:
- 56 counts of second-degree sexual assault
- Two counts of invasion of privacy
- Two counts of witness tampering
- One count of aggravated assault
- One count of aggravated assault on a victim of domestic violence
- One count of endangering the welfare of a child
Natal has remained in Camden County custody since his arrest in March 2022. His sentencing is scheduled for early 2025.
How Do Sexual Assault Charges Affect Your Future?
In New Jersey, a single second-degree sexual assault charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years and a fine of no more than $150,000. While a judge may impose such punishments, others do not end once one exits jail and pays fines.
Convicted individuals are typically required to register as sex offenders, often for life. Registrants are categorized into tiers—one through three—affecting the length and conditions of placement on the list. Data is readily accessible to the public, meaning anyone can view the individual's criminal history and personal information, including their home address.
Criminal background checks will reveal sexual assault convictions and registration on the state's sex offender database. Many employers are reluctant to hire individuals with such a record, and convictions lead to being ineligible for careers involving vulnerable populations like those involving children or seniors and in the healthcare and education sectors. Yet, convictions can spoil more occupations as anyone who must be licensed—accountants, architects, engineers, and many others—can have their credentials suspended or revoked because of criminal charges.
